Philosophizing The Walking Dead S3E9 The Suicide King and An Open Letter to Rick Grimes

Welcome to our journey into the guts of The Walking Dead. What kind of journey? A philosophical, psychoanalytical and political kind. What I would like to do over the next couple months is dig through the Walking Dead episode by episode to see what it can teach us. Thank you for following me on this journey. I look forward to reading your comments. Be forewarned: There are spoilers everywhere. Don’t forget to check out my previous post in the Philosophizing TWD series: Philosophizing The Walking Dead S3E8 Made To Suffer The Politically Corrected Angry Black Women

Dear Rick Grimes,

I hope this letter is finding you well. I wanted to check in with you about your recent behavior. I noticed that you are having some troubling visions of your neurotic two-timing wife who stupidly tried to kill the child she is mothering from your best friend. I wanted to tell you that I am disconcerted by your recent psychological breakdown. On the one hand, sure I get it, Lori is your wife so some mental anguish is the necessary result of her demise, but, on the other hand, the lady did you wrong. She played you against Shane, and ultimately pushed you into a corner where you had to kill him. So what I am wondering is wouldn’t it make more sense for you to envision Shane wearing a long flowing white dress? I mean the bromance that you had with Shane had caused you more emotional turmoil than anything that resulted from Lori.

Wake up Rick! Your crew is in shambles and are feebly trying to coordinate a response to the attack you lead on Woodbury.

Sincerely,

izombiheartzoey

For the amount of tragedy and death involved in The Walking Dead there is surprisingly few religious references. Most of the God references that come from characters who have explicitly stated an ambiguous relationship towards God. In Blood Letting Rick belts out a prayer in an empty church while Shane and Carl wait outside. In the prayer, he seeks a sign in order to silence the dialog in his own head. Open Letter to President Trump - An Offer You Shouldn't Refuse

Open Letter to President Trump, You represent the worst society has to offer. Not only has the democratic process been destroyed beyond all recognition but you have inspired a hate not seen since Hitler. You've given the country's idiots permission to let lose the full brunt of their bigotry. You've turned back the clock on women, LGBTQ, and human rights. And you did so haphazardly, for the lulz. But I am hopeful, I'd like to think you'd agree, preventing Hitler-like behavior is a good idea. I'd like to make you an offer. But first, let me tell you how you broke my heart today.
